Incopro is one of the world’s leading IP protection software developers, with over 600 clients worldwide including some of the worlds most well-renowned brands such as GHD, Lindt and Cath Kidson. After a large investment to help ensure the company could continue its exceptional growth Incopro decide to relocate from their existing office in Caerphilly to a new location in the centre of Cardiff.
The location chosen was a well-known building within the city, the former Burger & Lobster restaurant located on the second floor of one of the most recognisable buildings within The Hayes (also known as The Habitat building). The new working environment was designed by architect Downs Merrifield who focused on creating a space that was both functional and fit for purpose for Incopro while making the most of the buildings eye-catching and unique existing features. The ornate internal steel structure and intricate floor tiles were retained and new glass partitioning that echoes the style of the existing windows helped to ensure that the building’s character was not lost.
Imium were selected to deliver this exciting new working environment for Incopro, transforming it from the existing restaurant to a new high-end workplace. The project presented a number of unique challenges for our project delivery team, including removing the existing kitchen and freezer space, demolishing and removing an existing ceiling high partitioning wall and converting the existing bar area into a break out/kitchen space for the whole office. Other works included the demolition and removal the existing M&E services that were then replaced with new, renovation of existing timber floors, new flooring fitted to office areas and the installation of bespoke timber cladding to the internal walls and doors.
Given its location in the middle of one of the city centre’s main pedestrianised shopping areas, a strong logistical approach was vital to the success of the project. Restrictions on delivery times and site access limitations meant that a fully coordinated approach was required with all subcontractors and suppliers to ensure that the project was delivered successfully.
The design worked around the existing space ensuring that none of the existing features such as the moulded steel girders and tile flooring was lost. Downs Merrifield wanted to ensure that the character of the building stayed the same despite the change in use. To ensure the former Burger & Lobster restaurant met Incopro’s requirements as it became an office, new lighting, data and powerpoints were installed throughout as well as bespoke glass partitioning in the style of the existing windows to create meeting rooms and a larger board room.
The fit-out included the following works:
- New glazed partitioning, creating new offices and meeting rooms
- Installation of the new kitchen based around the former bar island
- Decoration throughout including the ceiling
- Installation of new carpet throughout the space
- Installation of a new secure entrance system
- Refurbishment of the existing staircase and entrance
- Fully branded graphics above the doorway on the ground floor
