Stadium Plaza is one of the major hospitality and entertainment hotspots in the centre of Cardiff, located next to the Principality Stadium (formerly the Millenium Stadium) and a short work from Cardiff Central Train Station. Stadium Plaza is home to major companies such as Vue, Superbowl and Pure Gym and is one of the most popular attractions in the city.
Situated opposite the new Central Square development and the new BBC Wales headquarters, Stadium Plaza was starting to show its age compared to the newer high-quality office buildings in the area. As part of the plans to redevelop the ageing Stadium Plaza, Naissance Capital contacted Imium to assist with the refurbishment and ensure that it remains an attractive destination for families and groups in Cardiff over the next several years.
Working alongside a local architect the brief was to create a modern and inviting space that greeted customers as they entered the building. Central to the design is the bespoke feature light designed by Design Haus Liberty in London, it is a 2700 piece fibre optic chandler called “Birds In Flight”. The feature light has 2700 individual handcrafted brass pendants that are designed to replicate a flock of birds migrating for the winter.
Lighting plays a huge part in the design of the area, with pools of light on the dark walls creating a moody and comforting atmosphere as guests walk into the atrium. A new entranceway with new disabled access and staircase was installed with brushed brass balustrades included matching the feature light and the new bespoke seating in the windows.
Imium also installed new hard wearing floor tiles imported from Italy, the tiles complimented the space and fit in with the design while also being functional and easy to maintain with the large footfall. Imium worked alongside a local supplier to instal new attractive signage throughout the lobby to put the finishing touched to the new look lobby space. Imium also commissioned custom built seating manufactured for Stadium Plaza, the seating offers a new area for visitors to sit that wasn’t available before the refurbishment.
